Beautiful vintage Japanese Bukemusume “Warrior’s Daughter” display doll, No. 12, measuring approximately 13 inches tall. This elegant collector doll wears a richly detailed brocade-style kimono in soft champagne-gold with red accents, a red obi sash, and an ornate back bow with metallic gold floral patterning. Her styled black hair, delicate hair ornaments, painted facial features, and graceful pose give the piece a refined traditional Japanese display look.
The original label is present and identifies the doll as:
“No. 12 BUKEMUSUME — Warrior’s Daughter”
The label explains that the doll represents the formal appearance of a warrior’s daughter, distinguished from that of a merchant’s daughter, and depicts her appearance just before becoming a wife. The label references the period “Christian Era 1300–1800.” is describing the historical period represented by the costume, not the age of the doll itself.
This is a lovely and harder-to-find labeled example, especially in the larger 13-inch size. The doll displays beautifully from all sides, with particularly striking detail in the red and gold obi bow, brocade kimono fabric, floral chest ornament, hair styling, and black display base.
